In the premiere episode, Melinda is contacted by the spirit of a soldier who says he is lost. Melinda thinks he may not realize that he is dead so she does some research and discovers that he was classified MIA in 1972. However, when she contacts the soldier's son about his father, he thinks Melinda is trying to scam him and now Melinda must find a way to help both father and son find closure.

After a train collides with a broken-down car on the train tracks, a young boy is accidentally killed inside the vehicle. Melinda helps the boy, who at first doesn't realize he is dead, reassure his mother that his death was not her fault.

Melinda helps a deceased teenager apologize to her twin sister for past betrayals and to move on.

Melinda and Jim intervene when a woman in Andrea's apartment building attempts to kill herself. Melinda discovers that the woman is being haunted by her fiancA©, who is still very much in love with her. The fiancA© makes one simple request, but even after that is granted, he still refuses to cross over. Melinda must figure out what's really holding him back.

While Melinda and Andrea plan their first auction of antiques from an old inn, Melinda is distracted by the spirits of three lost boys and their canine pal, all of whom died in a fire. When a wealthy businessman threatens to tear down the spooky inn, Melinda must help the boys cross over before they are lost forever.

Melinda is haunted by an angry young ghost who is causing mayhem. After several spooky run-ins with the tormented dead teenager, Melinda is able to calm him down enough to uncover the secret that threatens to devastate those he left behind.

When Jim is in a serious accident, Melinda rushes to the hospital to be with her husband. While there, Melinda encounters the ghost of a young wife who died during surgery. Is the hospital haunted? Did lingering spirits cause this woman's untimely death? Melinda seeks the truth while helping the woman's husband move past his pain.

After Jim starts to feel anxiety and despair for days on end, Melinda determines that he is experiencing the spirit of an ex-con, a man he could not save in a motorcycle accident. Melinda later learns that the spirit was led to her through her husband so she can help him apologize to the family of a boy he killed and beg forgiveness. When her attempt fails, Melinda must figure out a way to make amends with his estranged wife and son so he can cross over and detach himself from Jim.

After Melinda and Jim hear voices behind the static in their car radio, Melinda determines that they are spirit voices via the electronic voice phenomenon. Melinda realizes that one of the voices is from the mother of a troubled teenage boy who is trying to reach out to her son. Faced with the challenge of trying to interpret white noise, Melinda must figure out a way to piece together the messages from the mother and effectively communicate them to her son so she can cross over.

The spirit of a deceased bride is haunting her husband's fiancA© because she cannot bear the thought of him loving anyone else. The haunting causes the bride-to-be to assume that her fiancA© is still in love with his late wife, who was killed in a car crash on the way to their wedding reception. In an effort to make amends between the bride and her fiancA©, Melinda tries to straighten out any doubts that the young bride has while giving closure to the spirit bride so she can cross over.

Melinda is approached by the deceased mother of an amateur boxer who wants Melinda's help in reuniting her husband and son after her death caused them to be estranged. Melinda learns that the son is angry with his father for forcing him to compete in a boxing tournament while his mother was ill and, consequently, not being able to be with her when she died. Now Melinda must broker a peace between them before the mother can cross over.

As Andrea prepares to do standup at a local comedy club, Melinda encounters a bevy of dead comedians engaging in their own comedy act. One comic in particular stands out, as he is troubled and yearning to remember what lead to his tragic suicide. Through communicating with the other spirits and his living girlfriend, Melinda tries to help him remember what lead to his tragic death so he can cross over.

When a young man moves in across the street, Melinda witnesses an eerie spirit enter the house as well. Her dogged attempts to sort out the mystery bring threats from both the ghost and the haunted man, giving Jim cause for concern and prompting a fight between him and Melinda about her gift and its priority in their lives.

Melinda is contacted by the spirit of an artist who was executed for murder. He is trapped, constantly experiencing his death by hanging, and asks for help to move on, but first he must pass a message to his daughter, who refuses to listen. Meanwhile, Jim must deal with a lawsuit brought against him by a woman he saved when he was off duty.

Melinda is forced to remember how her relationship with her mother became strained after Melindaa 's first ghost emerges. Melindaa 's mother could not understand how to deal with Melindaa 's gift. Melinda must reunite with her mother to help the ghost.

Melinda must help rescue the brother of Andrea's friend, who went missing during a hike. The spirit of Andrea's friend begins to haunt her from an unconscious state and every time he flatlines he tries to give clues to the location of where his brother went missing. In order to find the missing brother, Melinda must convince doctors to let him flatline a few seconds longer so she can piece together his clues.

Upon buying items from a homeowner for her antique shop, Melinda encounters the spirit of an angry young boy, who she later learns is the homeowner's dead son. After witnessing life-threatening behavior against his mother and baby sister, Melinda realizes that the young boy needs help releasing anger toward his mother and decides to take on the challenge of helping him communicate with her so he can find closure and cross over.

When a traveling carnival comes to town, Melinda encounters the spirit of a vengeful magician who thinks his death during an underwater stunt was not an accident, but rather the work of his jealous brother. As Melinda pieces together the information leading up to his death, she learns of an unlikely suspect and that not everything is as it seems.

Melinda must help the ghost of an African-American man who died because of a fight with a white co-worker in the 1970s. The ghost has been haunting the judge who was the former prosecutor who did not file charges against the white man even though there was enough evidence. Melinda must try to help him find the justice he needs before he can cross over. Melinda must also help his son to erase his racist views before passing them onto his grandson.

Melinda injures her head after a fall and is afraid that she has lost her gift forever, as she cannot communicate with earthbound spirits anymore. Melinda helps a young girl who is distraught after the death of her boyfriend. Melinda faces the challenge of helping the boyfriend cross over without using her gift.

When the heat repeatedly goes out in Melinda's house and antique shop, she starts getting strange visits from the spirits of an airline pilot and flight attendant who complain of being cold. Initially Melinda has trouble understanding the messages they are trying to communicate, but she eventually figures out that they are trying to warn her about a jetliner that has lost cabin pressure and is going to crash outside of town. Despite Melinda's best efforts to warn transportation officials and townspeople, the jetliner crashes just outside of town, killing hundreds on board and leading up to what will be Melinda's biggest challenge yet.

After a jetliner crashes Melinda faces the overwhelming task of helping hundreds of passengers crossover. While Melinda faces this task she finds that the a Wide Brim Mana is working against her. Melinda must also try to work with the crash investigators who are trying to find out how Melinda knew that the plane was going to crash.
