Melinda is greatly concerned when it seems that Andrea is being influenced by Wide Brim. She goes to Professor Rick Payne, an expert in occult beliefs and history, to see if he can identify Wide Brim in order to win the battle for her friend's fate. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Melinda, a young man who seems to be obsessed with her makes plans to fly from Seattle to see her.

Melinda is haunted by the spirit of a young man who wants her to visit his wife, Donna, to make amends. When she does so, Melinda discovers that Donna is his former wife who divorced him because he was obsessed with his ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Melinda meets Delia Banks (Manheim), the mother of a boy who is determined to steal some valuable memorabilia from her store, and Melinda is surprised to find out what is really motivating him.

Melinda must find out why the spirit of a 6-year-old girl who drowned in the family swimming pool is unwilling to cross over. Melinda and Jim befriend a new couple whose home is haunted by a 6-year-old girl who drowned in their swimming pool. While Melinda uncovers why the child's spirit wreaks havoc in the house, she also meets the girl's brother who blames himself for his sister's death. Meanwhile, Delia, who sold the couple the house, would like to stop them from moving out.

Melinda encounters a ghost that doesn’t appear to see or hear her and seems to be attached to a box of handmade ornaments that Delia insists Melinda buy.

While visiting Andrea's grave, Melinda runs into a spirit who has been buried in someone else's grave. Melinda tries to seek out the spirit's real name, while also trying to locate the man whose name is on the spirit's grave. While helping the spirit, Melinda encounters an interesting change of events, in addition to some moral issues she must deal with.

While Melinda is away visiting her mother, Jim has a dream about a beautiful woman with a strange cat. When Melinda calls, Jim tells her what’s been going on, and she suggests that Jim visit Professor Payne. Payne helps Jim to identify the ghost, and when Melinda comes back home, she and Jim must help the ghost’s younger sister, who seems to be following in the dangerous footsteps of the ghost.

Melinda encounters the spirit of a woman who died in a snowstorm 20 years ago after her car slid off a road in a heavily wooded area. The woman wants Melinda's help in finding her young daughter who was in the car with her the night of the accident.

Melinda tries to help an angry ghost clear his name when she sees him in a restaurant that is burning down for the second time. The ghost was accused of setting the first restaurant fire that killed him, but the ghost tells Melinda that he's not responsible for the first fire. Melinda also remembers the night that she met Jim, which also involved a building on fire.

Melinda tries to help a former rock star named Brandon who is apparently being harassed by his father's ghost because he wanted his son to be a classical musician. Melinda discovers that Brandon's father has his own ghost, Brandon's dead former band mate, who was jealous of Brandon's talent. Melinda must now find a way to calm the former band mate's ghost so Brandon's father can give Brandon the encouragement he needs to go back to his rock music.

Melinda has an encounter with an angry ghost at a high school baseball game. Matt, the angry ghost of a former pro-baseball player who died in a terrible car accident, tries to posses Justin Cotter, a young pitcher. Melinda must help Justin to understand what is happening to him and to turn away from the angry spirit, as Justin is scared and confused and unaware of what is taking place inside him.

An eerie, mud-covered ghost transports Melinda from her house to an exotic jungle, but the ghost is unfortunately limited in speech due to a horrible condition, making it hard for Melinda to understand how she can help him. Melinda once again visits Professor Payne for help, but ends up getting interrogated by him after linking the ghost to him during her visit.

When Melinda has a hard time talking to the newest ghost in her life, she soon learns that the reason why he visited her is because he is in a coma. Through the course of her investigation of his life that Melinda learns that Hugha 's wife Lisa is in a fierce legal battle with his parents to take him off life support. Meanwhile, as Delia and Ned go through some personal belongings to donate to a rummage sale, they have a heart to heart about finding closure following the death of her husband.

A ghost who can recall his previous lives appears to be destined for another reincarnation as the child of Melinda's pregnant friend---but the spirit doesn't want to return and actively seeks to harm the unborn baby. The situation cools Jim's interest in starting a family, but it might be too late as Melinda begins to exhibit telltale symptoms.

Meanwhile, Delia turns to special guest star Cesar Milan to find out why her dog has been acting strangely, causing Melinda to discover that the dog has had several run ins with her ghost dog Homer.

After seeing Delia’s husband’s spirit sabatoging Delia’s date, Melinda must reveal her identity to Delia in order to help.

Melinda meets Gabriel, another whisperer with similar abilities. However, her fascination with meeting someone like her turns to fear when she finds a connection between him and Payne's wife.
